Description

The word ‘travertine’ comes from the Italian travertino, itself a derivation of the Latin tiburtinus ‘of Tibur’.

Nowadays, Travertine stone is one of the most popular building materials, especially for wall cladding. Travertine stone has a wide range of colors and various designs that the most variety can be found in Iran .

Structure

Travertine is a kind of limestone that is composed as a result of the activity of warm water springs and rapid cooling of water.

The main constituent minerals of travertine are calcite and aragonite, and the colors of lemon, yellow and red travertine are due to the presence of iron oxide in the chemical composition of travertine.

 In terms of the direction of cutting the stone copes, Travertine is divided into two types: wavy and no wave.

The presence of porosity in this stone, which results in lightness and improved adhesion to other building materials, has increased its use by architects for facade design.
